The Puma Speedcat Returns
Ever wondered what it was like to race in style? We made that happen this Xmas by taking over the brand new local E Kart racing track at Gravity Max, the latest attraction at Liverpool One, on behalf of PUMA UK, to showcase the new Speedcat shoe. We invited guests from around the city to take part in time trials, tournament format racing and of course, some live DJ sessions. How else could you combine sleek style, sharp corners, friendly faces and quick grooves.
The Speedcat is a PUMA icon. A classic race shoe-inspired shape, slick lines that almost look fast, and bold SPARCO branding on the tongue. All our guests received a pair fresh out of the box (thanks PUMA) and we were looking good and ready to race.
As our guests warmed up on the track, the excitement was starting to build in our very own pit space, what was accompanied by music from SVARA Radio residents Olly Luiz, LO Sound and Joshinio. Early laps were dominated by young prodigy Lewis Campbell, who set the fastest lap of 23 seconds, which stayed the time to beat. Worthy mention goes to DJ Olly Luiz, who rapped up his kart trying maybe too hard to beat the time, and nearly cut short his promising DJ career, by ploughing head on into the tyre guards around the track.
Thankfully Olly respawned to get back behind the decks.
The tournament whittled our competitions down to a final 3. Svara OG Joshinio, Rob May from Laces Out! and hot favourite Lewis Campbell. They took to the track donned in their Speedcats ready to go, looking good, and steel in their eyes. Lewis got off to a quick start, but the track quickly shrink as all 3 grouped together in some fierce and speedy manoeuvres. Dozens watched from the side to see the race, and to catch a glimpse of the icon trainer in all its glory, on the track. For 10 minutes, the racers went lap to lap in close quarters, but the eventual winner with the fastest lap at an electric 22.1 seconds was..... Joshinio!
We want to thank our guests, Gravity Max and most of all PUMA UK for giving us the responsibility to showcase their brand new release of one of their classic trainers, the Speedcat.
Special thanks to; Rob May (Laces Out), Oli Press (Independent Liverpool), Tito Press (Press Bros. Coffee), Olly Luiz (GLASS), Lewis Campbell, Amira Ibrahim.
